JACKSONVILLE HUMANE SOCIETY
The Jacksonville Humane Society does take in owned animals if you feel you can no longer take care of your pet. There are certain stipulations and a process you must go through to bring in your animal to the shelter.
The Jacksonville Humane Society does not put down animals by euthanasia because of space issues. This puts them in a position that they cannot take in all owned animals. The admitting is limited and animals are accepted by appointment only. Once you have an appointment, you will bring in your animal along with several forms filled out about your cat or dog and a signed surrender agreement.
If you bring your pet in to the Jacksonville Humane Society, you need to realize that it is forever. There is no changing your mind after the pet has been adopted out to another family. It doesn’t matter if you have had your pet for ten years and you are suffering financial times. The Jacksonville Humane Society is not a temporary home for animals so you can get back on your feet. You will be surrendering all rights to your animal and you will need to sign a legal form acknowledging this. If your dog or cat is still up for adoption and you are finally in a position to take care of it again, you can go to the shelter to apply for adopting a pet. There is no guarantee that the Jacksonville Humane Society will approve you for adoption or give you your pet back.
If you surrender your pet to the Jacksonville Humane Society and it is determined that the pet is not suitable to be adopted out to another family, suffers from behavioral problems, or has a medical condition you did not tell them about, they might require you to come back and get your animal. The shelter has 14 days to thoroughly evaluate the dog to determine if they will be able to place it in a good home or not. If you do not comply with their request to come back and get your animal, you could be prosecuted. You will be required to sign this agreement.
When you surrender your animal to the Jacksonville Humane Society you need to be sure you really want to get rid of your animal.
